CRYSTAL LAKE – A new furniture store plans to open in Crystal Lake thanks, in part, to a $10,000 incentive grant from the city.
Crystal Lake Furniture and Mattress plans to lease 12,000 square feet of space in Crystal Lake Plaza, a recently renovated shopping center along Route 14. It will be located at 18E Crystal Lake Plaza, the former site of Thomasville Furniture, according to city grant documents.
Owner Kimberly Welz chose the spot to expand her business, which is currently located in Prairie Grove.
On Tuesday, the Crystal Lake City Council approved a $10,000 grant to help Welz offset the cost of furnishing the new store as part of the city's Retailer and Manufacturer Job Creation and Investment Program.
Welz plans to hire four full-time and two part-time employees at the store, according to city documents.
The city budgeted $80,000 for the grant program. So far, the council has given out $50,000 in grants to businesses including Potbelly Sandwich Works, CalCo Controls Inc., Kumi Sushi, Harbor Freight Tools, Sea Level Diving, and New Peking Restaurant.
