Centegra Hospital-McHenry Auxiliary awards scholarships

CRYSTAL LAKE – Centegra Hospital-McHenry Auxiliary has awarded its annual health care scholarships of $2,000 to four recipients.

The scholarships were made possible by the auxilians who operate the Pink Door thrift shop at 3741 W Elm St. in McHenry; and Pink Lady gift shops at Centegra Hospital-McHenry, 4201 Medical Center Drive, and Centegra Hospital-Woodstock, 3701 Doty Road.

Also helping to fund the scholarships was the annual gala fundraisaer.

The Pink Door thrift shop sells clothing, furniture, home décor and children’s toys. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Pink Lady gift shop sells a variety of items such as flowers, plush, women’s accessories, balloons and baby and seasonal gifts. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. All the funds raised from the thrift and gift shops are donated back to Centegra Hospital-McHenry.

By awarding scholarships both to individuals who are seeking to start a career in health care and those who are expanding their current health-care roles, the auxiliary supports the mission of Centegra Health System as it provides health care and promotes wellness in an expanding environment.

The scholarship required the applicant to be a high school graduate, currently enrolled in a health-care career program in at least a third year level, live in the Centegra Health System service area and be currently employed by Centegra or be an immediate family member of a Centegra employee or volunteer.

The recipients are Tyler Humphrey, Megan Miller, Jessica Ricchiuto and Rachel Tampa.

Humphrey graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor of science degee in integrated physiology. He is pursuing his master of medical sciences degree at Loyola University and upon completion, is applying to medical school.

Miller has worked at Centegra as a patient safely companion and started work as a patient care tech in June. She is pursuing her nursing degree at McHenry County College.

Ricchiuto works in occupational health registry at Centegra. She completed her associate’s degree at McHenry County College and is continuing her nursing degree at Rockford College.

Tampa works as a volunteer at Centegra and is continuing her education at the St. Anthony College of Nursing.
