ROCK FALLS – Edna Marie Howerton, 98, of Rock Falls, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Rock Falls Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Edna was born March 2, 1914, in Peoria, the daughter of James and Mary E. (Booher) Snyder. She married Edward Howerton on April 11, 1931, in Rock Falls. He died Jan. 26, 1997. Edna was a homemaker. She enjoyed bicycling and social activities, and was a bowling coach for several years. Edna was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and First Presbyterian Church of Sterling.
Survivors include 12 grandchildren, Edward Johnston, Jack (Julie) Johnston, Jill (William) Clark, Gene (Dianna) Johnston, Edward Howerton, Scott Howerton (Sara), Joe Howerton, Suzy Helfmann, Sarah Kakkuri, Josh Lutyens, Margot Wheeler and Chris Wheeler; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Johnston; one son, Edward Howerton; and one grandson, James Howerton.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Christina Berry of First Presbyterian Church in Sterling officiating. Burial will be at Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls.
A memorial has been established to American Legion Scholarship Fund.
