McHenry County sheriff's officers arrested 24 people with assistance from other law enforcement agencies during an outstanding warrant roundup, officials said Friday.
The operation attempted 45 arrests and was led by the county sheriff's Apprehension Unit. Twenty-four area residents were arrested on outstanding warrants from McHenry, Lake, DeKalb and Kane counties.
Sgt. Tony Penna, supervisor of the McHenry County Sheriff's Apprehension Unit, said the county conducts arrest warrant sweeps three to four times a year. Normally, the sweeps net between 20 and 30 arrests, he said.
Officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Illinois State Police, the Lake County Sheriff's Office, and the police departments of McHenry, Cary, Crystal Lake, Algonquin and Lake in the Hills took part in Thursday's operation after a month of planning.
About 40 officers from the participating agencies were divided into five teams that scattered throughout the county to serve arrest warrants for various felony and misdemeanor crimes.
"Every county has outstanding warrants," Penna said. "But we have a lot of warrants from outside jurisdictions, residents with outside arrest warrants."
Thursday's arrest warrants were served, without incident, from about 4:30 a.m. until just before noon, Penna said.
Officers seized guns from the home of a Lake in the Hills man wanted on a warrant from Kane County for a stolen vehicle. Officers ran a check for the man's firearm owner's identification, which showed that his card was revoked, Penna said.
