DIXON – A Dixon man on probation from a drug conviction was back in the Lee County Jail on Friday on a $400,000 bond on charges that he hit and choked his girlfriend Thursday night at his Dixon apartment.
Police said Moses D. Spears, 27, 617 Marclare St., apartment 21, is charged with aggravated domestic battery, felony and misdemeanor domestic battery, and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence, also a misdemeanor.
He has a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
Police were called to the apartment at 11:52 p.m. Thursday. A woman, who said she dates Spears, told police that he shoved her, hit her in the face with his hands, and choked her until she started to black out.
Spears then took her cellphone when she tried to call 911, according to police.
She did not need medical assistance, according to police. Dixon Police Sgt. Steve Howell said he did not know why the two were fighting.
Police arrested Spears in October after an undercover police officer bought two guns in early September and an informant bought crack cocaine from him in September.
He later was given probation after he pleaded guilty to delivery of between 1 and 15 grams of cocaine.
