Lurz graduates from basic training

Air Force Airman Tyler R. Lurz graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Lurz earned distinction as an honor graduate.

He is the son of Tracy Lurz of Sandwich and Todd Lurz of Leland and a 2008 graduate of Sandwich High School.

Haeffner graduates from basic training

Air Force Airman Jeffery R. Haeffner graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Haeffner is the son of Jeffery Haeffner of Sycamore and Linda Davis-Holloway of Tullahoma, Tenn. He is a 2011 graduate of Sycamore High School.

Cyrier returns from Iraq

Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Johnathan E. Cyrier has returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., after being deployed to Iraq serving in support of Operation New Dawn.

Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces also were assisting in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence as a democracy.

Operation New Dawn officially came to an end Dec. 15, 2011.

Cyrier, a medic attached to the 801st Combat Support Hospital, Fort Sheridan, has served 11 years in the military.

The staff sergeant is a resident of DeKalb and a 2011 graduate of Indian Creek High School.
