PRINCETON — A Lake Thunderbird couple who have been into selling antiques and furniture for more than 25 years has opened Grand Plaza Antiques Etc. in Princeton.
Aleksander and Lucia Nowak, opened the shop at 531 S. Main St. the week after Christmas.
“After much thought and deliberation, we have decided to open the store and further develop our antique addiction,” Lucia said.
Grand Plaza Antiques Etc. will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and by appointment seven days a week. People can call the Nowaks at 815-878-2866.
“We have the different, unusual and the interesting antiques lots of furniture, many large interesting pieces, some very old, some old, some not so old.
“Our merchandise is to be used, enjoyed and lived in ... on a daily basis and not to be useless bothersome dust catchers in a back corner. We specialize in wooden ornate, carved, leather and upholstered furniture, as well as everyday use and used items for the home and general public, “ he said.
The Nowaks will also have original art, bronzes and many other one-of-a-kind handmade items for sale at their store.
“We invite local and not-so-local artists to come in and display their talents and tell (teach) the younger generation their story, and how they got hooked on and addicted to their craft, hopefully sparking interest in our young adults to pursue and help develop their own unused, perhaps unknown-yet talents.
“We encourage young people to come in, ask questions and learn about the past, especially young adults who have been raised with mega-massed produced items — a sign of our wonderful times,” she said.
“We will do furniture repairs and restoration as well as upholstery work and stain glass repairs, and have stained and color glass and supplies for sale.
“We invite old and future friends and neighbors to come in and visit us often and to get to know something about the past, and things that they may not have known previously,” she added.
Dealers, pickers, designers and the general public are invited and welcome to visit often, since merchandise will change on a regular basis.
