ORO VALLEY, Ariz. – Dr. Eugene B. Stegmaier, DDS, 92, of Oro Valley, Ariz., formerly of Woodstock, died June 5, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He practiced dentistry for 30 years in Woodstock and 18 years in the Tucson, Ariz. area before retiring in 1994.
Dr. “Doc” Stegmaier was born Feb. 17, 1919, in Farmington, Minn., to John and Ann Stegmaier. He graduated in 1942 from Loyola School of Dentistry, Chicago. He served four years in the Navy during World War II as a dentist stationed in London. He married Muriel Whiting in 1943. He belonged to Knights of Columbus third and fourth degrees. He was a member of the Elks, Lions, Navy Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Chamber of Commerce in Woodstock. He belonged to five dental organizations in Illinois and two in Arizona, serving as president in three. He was a dedicated member of Church of the Apostles, Tucson. He loved gardening and travel. He made friends wherever he went and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was so proud of every member of his family and loved them all unconditionally. He will be greatly missed.
He and Muriel had nine children, Daniel (Susan) Stegmaier of Woodstock, Sally Stegmaier (also known as Annee Sigel) of Oro Valley, Ariz., William (Debbie) Stegmaier of Dixon, Nina Rudsinski Stegmaier of Catalina, Ariz., Patricia Jill (Larry) Lappin of Dixon, Thomas (Cathy) Stegmaier of Highland, Mich., Mark (Janine) Stegmaier of Montara, Calif., James (Jacquie) Stegmaier of Steamboat Springs, Colo, and John Stegmaier of Boise, Idaho. They had 22 grandchildren, Paul Stegmaier of Woodstock, Anne (Ben) Stupar of Tiffin, Iowa, Becky Deneen, Monica Deneen of Tucson, Ben (Morgan Lifko) Deneen of Stillwater, Minn., Isaac (Shana) Deneen of Tulsa, Okla., Jarad Stegmaier, Jayme (Jeff) Hale and Jennifer (Ryan LaVelle) Stegmaier, all of Dixon, Jacob (Sarah) Stegmaier of St. Louis, JT (Adriana Love) Stegmaier of Davenport, Iowa, Danielle (Larry) Balliere, Josh Rudsinski of Tucson, Zeb (Kami) Lappin of Dixon, Lucas (Andrea) Lappin of Sterling, Noah Lappin of DeKalb, Courtney Stegmaier of Highland, Mich., Rachel Stegmaier of Kalamazoo, Mich., Alisa Stegmaier of San Diego, Jamison Stegmaier (Justine) of Montara, Calif., Xandra Stegmaier (Harlan) of New York, Parker Stegmaier of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and nine great-grandchildren, Kaia Lifko and Shea Deneen of Stillwater, Damian, Devin and Payton Hale of Dixon, Abby and Jack Balliere of Tucson, and Layni and Presley Lappin of Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Stegmaier; his loving wife of 58 years, Muriel; and his oldest son, Daniel.
Memorial services will be at a later date in Tucson and Woodstock.
Memorials have been established to Doc’s favorite charity, Gospel Rescue Mission, 1130 W. Miracle Mile, Tucson, AZ, 85705, an organization offering shelter and services for the homeless.
