GARDNER, Ill. — Mr. Roger L. Schaulin, 65, of Tempe, Ariz., and formerly of Joliet, Ill., and Mesa and Tucson, Ariz., passed away Friday, May 13, 2011.
Born May 25, 1945, in Morris, Ill., Roger was a son of the late Lyle R. and Mildred Hill-Schaulin. He was a 1963 graduate of Lanark High School and earned his bachelor's of science degree at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill.
Roger was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam Era, from March 2, 1965, to Feb. 28, 1969, when he was honorably discharged with a Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon.
He worked as a district sales manager for Dunkin Donuts from 1975 until Sept. 1, 2004. He can be remembered for his enjoyment of fishing and reading in his free time.
Survivors include his wife, Leasure, whom he married on Dec. 25, 2001; two children, Scott G. Schaulin and Esther Beck; two grandchildren, Skyler Richardson Beck and Mason Roger Beck; three brothers, William L. (Rebecca) Schaulin, Richard L. (Mary Jane) Schaulin and Karl J. (Karrin) Schaulin; special aunts Irene Huston, Evelyn Danielson and Carol Schaefer; nieces and nephews Brian Schaulin, Karen Viviers, Jeff Schaulin, Jennifer Schaulin, Kristen Brandenburg and Kraig Schaulin; and special friends Don Miller, Gene Miller and Greg Seighorst; as well as numerous cousins.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen Joy Schaulin.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Reeves Funeral Home, 203 Liberty St., Gardner. Roger will then lie in state Friday, May 20, in the United Lutheran Church, 309 E. Jefferson St., Gardner, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. The Rev. Royan Rodney will officiate, and burial will be in Gardner Prairie Cemetery.
