ROCK FALLS – Karen J. Tate, 73, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Pine Acres Rehabilitation and Living Center, DeKalb.

Karen was born July 2, 1937, in Dixon, the daughter of John and Gladys (Mosher) Maronde.

She married Harry O. Tate on Feb. 26, 1955, in Carroll. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1995.

She worked as a crossing guard in Rock Falls and at Golden Meals in Sterling. She was an avid bowler and bowled on leagues in Rock Falls. She also enjoyed reading and camping.

Survivors include six daughters, Pamela Tate and Patricia Perales, both of Rock Falls, Sandra (David) Wilkin of Sycamore, Kathy (Terry) Williams of Rock Falls, Judith (Thad) Musyl of Sterling, and Joyce (Benjamin) Sowa of Malta; three sons, Harry (Denise Henderson) Tate of Las Vegas, Terry (Mildred Bartlett) Tate of Oregon, and Gary (Mari St. John) Tate of Machesney Park; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Shirley (Robert) Dunbar of Rock Falls, Peggy (Donald) Warnick of Woodland Shores, and Ruby (Kendall) Mosher.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Joanne Boos; and one brother, John Maronde.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls, with Pastor Dalmus Meeks officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Heart Foundation.
