STERLING – Kenneth “Pat” Farley, 79, of Sterling, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1931, in rural Lee County, the son of John and Anna (Finn) Farley. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force. Pat married Susan J. Weaver on Feb. 4, 1956, in Sterling. She died Aug. 16, 2001.
He was employed for more than 30 years at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., Sterling, and was a real estate agent with Farley Real Estate, Dixon. Pat was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Sterling, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 662, where he served as a past Grand Knight.
He enjoyed all aspects of agriculture and had a passion for old tractors. He enjoyed keeping track of the weather, and crop and market reports for his son, John. He was an avid and expert card player. Pat was a very proud “dad,” having found great joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Sue (Jeff) Neubauer of Sterling and Julie (Steve) Conroy of Johnsburg; four sons, John (Lori) Farley of Manhatten, Kan., Patrick Farley and Tim (Christine) Farley, both of Tempe, Ariz., and William Farley (Donna Case) of Brighten, Colo.; 20 grandchildren, Celeste Farley, Tara Farley, Katelyn Farley, Lacey Farley, Mike Farley, Ryan Farley, Kathryn Farley, Jack Farley, Brooke Farley, Austin Farley, Andrew Farley, Breanna Neubauer, Drew Neubauer, Nate Neubauer, Steve Conroy, Susan Conroy, Michael Conroy, John Conroy, Will Conroy, and Luke Conroy; one great-grandson, Abram Farley; one sister, Annabelle (Joe) Breunig of Dixon; one brother-in-law, Bob Bradley of Sterling; and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Weaver of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, George, Joseph, Francis, Jim, Edward, and Robert Farley; six sisters, Helen Fischer, Mary Stephanitch, Lucille Speaker, Eileen Wittenauer, Ruth Farley, and Rose Farley; one sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Bradley; and one brother-in-law, John Weaver.
Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Sterling. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sterling.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Ave., Sterling.
Memorials in his memory may be made to St. Mary Church or St. Mary Grade School.
