Know Your Neighbors: Tori Shelley, Waitress, student

Tori Shelley, 41, of Rock Falls, is a waitress at Gazi's Restaurant, Rock Falls, and is studying at Sauk Valley Community College to become an emergency medical technician-paramedic. She has a son, Jesse Moncivais, 14, and a daughter, Jenessa Moncivais, 11. She is the daughter of Joyce Rippy and Brock Shelley, both of Sterling, and has a sister, Jennifer Shelley, 39, of Sterling.

On-the-job lesson: Treat people fairly and with respect.

Alma mater: I graduated in 1987 from Sterling High School and took some classes at AIC College, Davenport, Iowa.

Philosophy: Do unto others as you'd have done unto you.

Hearts: Bingo, spending time with my kids, being outdoors, "Frasier," and any of the ghost-hunting shows.

Darts: Noise.

Haunts: Parks, any kind of sporting events, and swimming pools.

Heroes: My parents.

First job: I was a waitress at Harvest House in Northland Mall in Sterling when I was 16. I liked it.

First car: A Ford Mustang when I was 17.

Phobia: Spiders.

Guilty pleasure: Chocolate.
