Gladys May Vandersnick

ROCK FALLS – Gladys May Vandersnick of Rock Falls passed into the arms of our Lord on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at CGH Medical Center.

She was born May 5, 1915, in Geneseo, to Gustav and Anna Neumann. She married Albert Vandersnick on Jan. 29, 1938, in St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo. He preceded her in death in 1993.

Gladys was a graduate of public schools and Geneseo Township High School. She was a graduate of Sterling School of Licensed Practical Nursing and a past president of Licensed Practical Nurses of Illinois Division 17.

She was employed at Community General Hospital, Sterling, for 20 years, retiring in 1974. She was a volunteer at Lincolnland American Red Cross Bloodmobile for nearly 50 years, and a past board member. Gladys was a Democratic election judge for nearly 40 years, and was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Rock Falls, and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen (James) Nelson of Rock Falls; her daughter-in-law, Sandra Vandersnick of Rock Falls; 10 grandchildren, Kathy Nelson, Sharon (Chon) Wherry, Nancy (Dennis) Heltemes, Tim (Mary) Nelson, Audra Nelson (Greg Tinney), Michelle Vandersnick, Mark (Pam) Vandersnick, Michael (Kelly) Vandersnick, Beth Vandersnick, and Eric (Sarah) Vandersnick; 13 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Marvin in 1998; her parents; five brothers; and three sisters.

Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Louis Tosto, celebrant, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sterling.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls.
