STERLING – Lois M. Hanrahan, 89, of Sterling, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born Oct. 2, 1920, in Sterling, the daughter of Byron R. and Minnie (Welch) Johnson. She married James J. Hanrahan Sr. on April 16, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1987. Lois was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rock Falls and Sterling Moose Lodge. She was a past member of the Rock Falls American Legion Auxiliary and Kings Daughters. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and was a Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Bears fan.
Surviving are her children, James J. (Beverly) Hanrahan of Tampico, Judy (Gerald) Young of Oregon, Byron (Donna) Hanrahan of Tampa, Fla., Michael Hanrahan of Winter Park, Fla., and Patricia Hanrahan of Sterling; two sisters, Margaret Snyder of Prophetstown and Leona Cassens of Polo; three brothers, Max (AnnaMae) Johnson of Prophetstown, William (Donna) Johnson of Rock Falls, and Michael (Donna) Johnson of Sterling; 18 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Mildred Estabrook and Betty Diehl; and one grandson, Gerald Young Jr.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Henrietta Milner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McDonald-Allen-Grennan Funeral Home, 505 First Ave., Sterling.
