Most college wrestling teams have numerous athletes in a given weight class, but Minooka grad Kevin Bokoski hasn't needed any help at 141 pounds this season.
Bokoski, who wrestles for Luther College, recently posted a 3-1 mark at the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference duals. Bokoski won two of those matches by pinfall, subduing Central College's Eric Wilkerson at the 2:02 mark and Buena Vista University's Tim Vore at 1:25. He topped Loras College's Matt Holmes 8-6 for his other win. His lone loss, an 8-3 decision, was to Cornell College's Kevin Donahue.
"He is creeping closer and closer to his goal of being a NCAA Division III All-American," said Dave Mitchell, Luther's head coach. "We are excited about where he is headed. Donahue was an All-American one year ago, but Kevin is learning from wrestling him each and every time."
Bokoski has built a record of 18-9 this year. He has won 10 matches by decision, five by major decision and three by pinfall. ...
Minooka grad Ryan Warcynski, a freshman with the University of Dubuque, also competed at the IIAC Duals. Warcynski defeated Coe College's Dale Hundley 7-5 for his only win at the meet. He was topped by Simpson College's Wade Dowling 9-3 and Wartburg's Jacob Groth 11-3. Dubuque lost to Coe (35-15) and Wartburg (35-9) but defeated Simpson (34-12).
Lincoln Christian University basketball player Landan Callahan, a Seneca gad, scored 17 points in a 101-84 win over Fontbonne University. Callahan hit 5-of-7 shots from beyond the three-point arc and was 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He also had eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. ...
The 19th-ranked University of Illinois wrestling team defeated Michigan State University 23-12. Illinois' 184-pounder, John Dergo (Morris), defeated Curran Jacobs by technical fall at the 7:00 mark of the contest. ...
The South Dakota State University basketball team defeated Centenary College of Louisiana 81-75. Garrett Callahan, a Seneca grad, contributed 10 points. The Jackrabbit junior, who hit 3-of-6 shots from the field and 2-of-2 from the stripe, also had two rebounds. Garrett Callahan hit 2-of-3 shots from beyond the arc. Callahan's brother and teammate Griffan Callahan, a Seneca grad, finished with five points. Garrett Callahan played 19 minutes while Griffan Callahan played 17. SDSU is 11-10 overall and 7-3 in the Summit League. ...
Seneca grad Seth Evans, a member of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay basketball team, scored four points in UWGB's 69-55 win over Youngstown State University. Evans also had three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the contest. Wisconsin-Green Bay has won four of its past five games. The team is 15-7 overall and 7-3 in the Horizon League. ...
University of North Carolina wrestler Brian Bokoski, a Minooka grad, was topped twice in the past two weeks. Bokoski, who grapples at 125 pounds for the Tar Heels, lost a 10-3 decision to the United States Naval Academy's Aaron Kalil. The freshman also lost to University of Virginia's Ross Gitomer 16-5. UNC lost to both teams, falling to 16th-ranked Virginia 23-12 and to the Naval Academy 21-15. ...
University of Chicago wrestler Joey Ruetteger, a Minooka grad, lost a 13-5 decision to Augustana College's Alberto Quiros in a dual meet. Chicago defeated Augustana 22-16. ...
Reed-Custer grad Ryan Eichelberger, a member of the Southern Illinois University-Carbondale track team, finished eighth in the one-mile run at the SASF Invitational indoor meet, which was hosted by SIUC. Eichelberger finished the race in 5:16.92. Team scores were not kept.
