DIXON – Paul L. Potts, 94, of Dixon, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at his home. Mr. Potts owned and operated Potts Meat Market, Manhattan Cafe, Lincoln Manor and Lincoln Lodge Motel, Brandywine Restaurant and Best Western Motel, and Phoenix Room Restaurant, all in Dixon. He also was the food purchasing director of Ramada Inns, Phoenix, and a member of Townsquare Partnership, Dixon.
Paul was born Jan 26, 1915, in Tamalco, the son of Levi and Mabel (Ditsch) Potts. He was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Friel on Sept. 2, 1967, in Grand Detour. Paul was a referee of high school football and basketball games for many years.
He served on the Dixon City Council and Dixon School Board; and was Dixon city police commissioner. Paul was a member of Dixon Elks Lodge 779 and served on the Dixon Country Club Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife of Dixon; his daughter, Mary (Jack) Guerrieri of Rock Falls; daughter-in-law, Pam Potts of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Marie Fane of Dixon and Frances Sorensen of Phoenix; two sisters-in-law, Melba "Mickey" Potts of Dixon and Jean Potts of Franklin Grove; two grandchildren, Paul L. Potts of Tucson, Ariz., and Michael (Keely) Guerrieri of Sterling; and two great-grandchildren, Rylee and Dale Guerrieri, both of Sterling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Lee Potts; two brothers, Kenneth Potts and Victor Potts; and two sisters, Maxine Fane and Ovella Shafer.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Dixon, with the Rev. Bunyan Cocar, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, Dixon, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials have been established to Dixon Police Department and Dixon Athletic Booster Club.
