Cub Scouts Pack 102, from Southeast Elementary School in Sycamore, recently held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet at Sycamore High School with approximately 100 in attendance.
Each year, Cub Scouts celebrate the birthday of scouting and the graduation, or crossover, of the Webelos II Cub Scouts into Boy Scouts. The theme of the evening, “American ABCs,” included entertainment by local magician Dave Hill and family, a delicious catered dinner by 5-B’s of Waterman and the annual Scout Rank Advancement and Crossover Ceremony.
More than 35 Cub Scouts received their rank advancement, which included Tigers, Bears and Webelos I. Throughout the year, Scouts in each level worked on various age appropriate requirements to achieve the next rank.
This year, one of the six Webelos II Scouts crossed over to Sycamore Boy Scouts Troop 2, chartered by the Sycamore United Methodist Church.
Brandon Lovell participated in the Crossover Ceremony as he departed Cub Scouts, walked across the symbolic bridge and was welcomed by Troopmaster Jeff Brust, his brother and Troop 2 Boy Scout Ian Lovell, and Troop 2 Scouts Kevin Loitz and Chris and Alex Handel.
Other Webelos II boys that completed the Cub Scouts program include Dylan Benson, Liam Stone, Christopher Parnell and Briar Wilson.
The Boy Scouts organization began in 1910 for boys age 12 and older. As the organization grew, a program for the younger siblings of Boy Scouts was developed. In 1930, the Cub Scouts program was launched for boys in first through fifth grades to offer and encourage continued family activities and involvement.
Cub Scouts Pack 102 is chartered by Southeast Elementary School PTO in Sycamore and currently has about 40 Scouts ranging from 7-11 years old. It is a family oriented group that welcomes all families.
Some yearly highlights include the Pinewood Derby, the Pumpkinfest Parade, the Blue and Gold Banquet, two or three yearly campouts, serving the local community and other monthly activities.
Pack 102 is currently accepting memberships for the upcoming year.
Boys entering the first grade next fall may join in May as a Tiger scout. Any interested boy is encouraged and invited to join.
