Lincoln-Way D-210 board approves capital project bids

Lincoln-Way District 210

The Lincoln-Way School District 210 Board approved multiple bids for its future summer projects.

Lincoln-Way Central’s roof replacement and restoration bid was one of the most important projects the district was facing. At Thursday’s meeting, the bid was awarded to J.L. Adler Roofing & Sheet Metal for $295,950.

On Nov. 17, administration and DLA Architects received nine bids.

The board also voted to award the bid of the Lincoln-Way West work site to Evans & Son Blacktop for $296,969.55. The work consists of construction of concrete pads for the baseball and softball field bleachers and structural recoating of the track.

The base bid for Evans & Son was $133,063.76, and the “alternate” bids were $53,835.79 for the concrete pads and $110,070 for the structural recoating of the track. The alternate bid to continue asphalt walking paths to the eastern baseball field was declined.

The board also approved the West stadium turf replacement contract with FieldTurf for $582,068.77. The turf at West is at or near the end of its life. It was installed in 2009 and had an eight-year warranty, according to board documents.

FieldTurf and DLA proposed a cost saving Recover System, which leaves the existing field in place and using it as a shock pad, eliminating the cost of removing the existing turf and installing a new shock pad.

Board documents state that the Recover System will provide the district approximately a 30% savings over traditional turf replacement. The new system carries a 10-year, 3rd-party warranty and is the same system that is installed at Central and East.

“The district has been pleased with this product,” the document states.

The fiscal/personal impact for all projects is in the fiscal 2020 capital projects fund for capital improvement projects.

Some board members had concerns about why some bids came in so low and if the bid winners had done previous work for the district. Those with concerns were reassured other board members that they had done previous work and gave examples of past projects.

The last project the district approved was the basic remodeling bid at Central and East to Integral Construction for $1,839,200. This includes select door and frame repairs at the schools.
