New Lenox D-122 returns to in-person learning, kindergarteners can enroll for next year

Students in New Lenox School District 122 returned to in-person learning after being home since the end of November.

“We are so excited welcoming back our in-person learners,” Superintendent Lori Motsch said. “It was certainly a great day to see all those buses out there and we had some very happy students happy to see their friends.”

The district is still running its remote program for those who chose that option. Other board members also expressed their excitement for students being back and thanked those who made it possible.

The board and district’s goal is to remain in-person until the end of the year.

Motsch also said at Tuesday’s meeting that the district is still looking to hire substitute teachers.

Although the future is uncertain, the district is looking for incoming kindergarteners for next school year. To register a kindergartener, parents can visit the district’s website and click the “new kindergarten students 2021-2022 information.”

Parents will fill out survey upon clicking on that link.

“It is very important for enrollment,” Motsch said. “We really need to find those kindergarteners.”

Overall, the district has students enrolling on a daily basis and by next month it will “really begin to see the changes,” Motsch said. Those enrollment numbers reflect students that will be new to the district or homeschooled students returning to the district.
