The improvements is a continuation of previous improvements in 2019. Phase II will begin Sept. 1.

Streetscape improvements will include sidewalk replacement and roadway resurfacing, according to a news release from the city of Lockport.

The streets that will receive the improvements include State Street between 10th Street and 11th Street and on 9th Street between State Street and Hamilton Street.

Phase I consists of “roadway resurfacing, planter box installation, sidewalk removal and replacement, brick paver installation and landscaping improvements” on Ninth Street between State Street and Hamilton Street, the release said.

Phase II will consist of the same types of improvements as the first phase, except these will occur at on State Street between 10th Street and 11th Street and will extend to the southwest and southeast corners of the intersection at 11th Street.

In addition, green parkway will be installed on the southwest corner of the intersection at State Street and 11th Street.

The project is expected to be completed this fall, but the timeline is weather-dependent, the release said.

Temporary access to building entrances during construction will be maintained and existing parking lots near Ninth Street, as well as angled parking along 10th Street and 11th Street, will be accessible.

The city of Lockport “was awarded funding through the Surface Transportation Program for a portion of the work with 80% provided by federal funding,” the release said, with the remaining 20% being offset through a second award through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program for $1.5 million dollars, the release said.

Lockport is responsible for approximately 10% of the project’s cost, the release said.
