Cadence Premier Logistics expanding in Joliet

Joliet-based trucking company will add services and operations along Route 53

Cadence Premier Logistics will spread to the west side of Route 53 after getting city approval for its plan to expand trucking operations.

The City Council on Tuesday approved an annexation and rezoning that creates a 67-acre parcel for the Cadence project.

Cadence will build at Emerald Drive, where Speedway also plans to build a truck stop next year.

Emerald Drive now only runs east of Route 53 into the Laraway Crossings business park where Cadence operations, including the company corporate office, are located. The Cadence and Speedway projects will extend Emerald west.

Intersection improvements, including the addition of a traffic signal, are planned for 2022.

The City Council has begun to resist projects that depend on truck access to Route 53.

In November, the council voted, 8-0, to reject Tulsa, Oklahoma-based QuikTrip’s plan to build a truck stop at Route 53 and Laraway Road, the next intersection south of Emerald, with one member commenting on the capacity of the intersection to handle more trucks.

Also in November, the developer of the Joliet Logistics Park at Route 53 and Millsdale Road pulled its plan from a council agenda after questions were raised about truck assess to Route 53.

There were no questions or comments before the council voted, 8-0, for the Cadence plan.

Cadence CEO Rocky Caylor did not return calls seeking details on the project and its construction timetable.

The Cadence plan, according to a city staff report, includes:

• A 27-acre marshaling center for trucks and trailers with 350 parking spaces for trailers and 366 spaces for tractor trailers;

• A 253,200-square-foot Pit Stop facility with seven bays for truck and trailer repairs, a sales operation for trucks and trailers, storage for parts, and a restaurant on an 18-acre site that also will have 190 vehicle parking spaces, 66 truck parking spaces and loading docks;

• A 114,200-square-foot warehouse with 42 truck parking spaces, 178 vehicle spaces and loading docks;

• Three stormwater detention areas of 5.2 acres, 2.8 acres and seven acres.

Cadence operations on the east side of Route 53 already include a Pit Stop facility that has a gas station for trucks and a cafe.

The company moved its operations from Alsip to Joliet in 2016.
