Parents: help students adjust to ‘new normal’ with free program on Thursday in Plainfield

Registration not required; professional development credits available

Two clinical therapists will present a free program Thursday evening to help parents prepare students for the “new normal” at school.

Dorothy Kuklinkski and Tammy Tunac, both from Linden Oaks Behavioral Health, will share with parents ways to talk to their children about the return to school and normal routines, address any anxieties about COVID-19 and help them develop they stamina they need for a regular, in-person school day.

The program will held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Plainfield North High School, 12005 S. 248th St. in Plainfield. The District 202 Plainfield Parent Community Network is the host. Community resources will be available at 6 p.m.

The Centers for Disease Control website said transitions are hard for children and their families, especially when transitions include physical distancing and facemasks. The CDC website also offer tips for parents to help navigate this time in their children’s lives.

Registration is not required. Presentations will be available in English and Spanish. Child care will not be available. Facemasks are required for anyone is not vaccinated.

Professional development credits (CEUs and CPDUs) will be available for teachers and counselors attending this program.
