A $50,000 bond was set for a Joliet woman charged with kicking an officer and spitting in another officer’s face.
On Monday morning, Judge Dave Carlson found probable cause to keep Cassandra Huffman, 51, detained at the Will County jail on two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and a charge of resisting a police officer, court records show.
Carlson set Huffman’s bond at $50,000. She will need to post $5,000 for her release from jail.
Huffman was arrested after officers responded for a welfare check at close to 7:50 p.m. Friday at her residence in the 3000 block of Heritage Drive, according to Joliet police.
When the officers arrived at the scene, they determined that Huffman was “experiencing a psychotic event and needed to be transported to the hospital for evaluation,” police said.
Huffman was belligerent and yelling at officers, police said, and she was ultimately placed in handcuffs when she charged at an officer.
“While in handcuffs, Huffman kicked an officer and then spit in the face of another officer while in the ambulance,” police said.
Paramedics with the Joliet Fire Department took Huffman to AMITA Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She was taken to jail following her hospital stay.
Huffman’s booking photo showed what appeared to be an injury below one of her eyes. Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the injury to Huffman’s eye occurred prior to police contact.
Huffman is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 18 for a preliminary hearing in her case.
