Man apparently targeted in Joliet Township slaying: cops

No arrests made yet in fatal shooting, police said

A man was the apparent target of a fatal shooting on Saturday in a neighborhood that lies south of the Interstate 80 bridge in Joliet Township.

As of Monday, no one had been arrested in connection with the slaying of 42-year-old Todd Taylor, said Will County Deputy Chief Dan Jungles.

Deputies discovered Taylor’s body with multiple gunshot wounds in the front seat of a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Oscar Avenue. The area is south of the I-80 bridge and Hickory Creek.

“We are still early on in our investigation but it appears that Todd Taylor was the intended target,” Jungles said.

Jungles said the sheriff’s office will provide additional details on the incident a later time.

Taylor suffered four gunshot wounds to his upper body, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and East Joliet Fire Protection District members rendered aid to Taylor but he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the shooting.

Taylor is the father of 20-year-old Todd Taylor, who was found dead with gunshot wounds on April 28, 2020, in Joliet, according to Jungles.

The younger Taylor was one of several people killed in April 2020 in shootings in Joliet and Crest Hill.

Floyd Faint Sr., 47, was also one of those victims. His son, Floyd Faint Jr., was found shot to death on the I&M Canal trail path in July 2019.

Dartavius Payton, 26, was charged with the younger Taylor’s murder.

The Will County Sheriff’s office is seeking the public help’s in trying to identify suspects in the case.
