Slain man identified in Crest Hill shooting

Incident remains under investigation

Police identified a man who was shot to death Saturday in Crest Hill.

Crest Hill Police Chief Ed Clark confirmed Leandre Abbott, 29, of Crest Hill was found mortally wounded on Elizabeth Court just south of Ingalls Avenue.

Abbott was taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet where he died, Crest Hill police officials said in a statement.

Will County Coroner Laurie Summers’ office released a statement on Monday regarding Abbott that said only that he was pronounced deceased shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday and the cause and manner of his death will be determined at a later date.

Abbott was shot multiple times, Clark said.

He said the investigation of Abbott’s death remains ongoing.

“We’re getting a lot of good information that’s coming in. We’re putting the pieces together,” Clark said.

He said detectives are confirming the motive behind the shooting, along with following up with witnesses and on leads.

The Crest Hill Police Department posted surveillance video showing a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt to the city’s Facebook page. The man seen in the video is a suspect in the homicide, according to the police department.

Police officials believe the fatal shooting was a targeted incident and there is no immediate threat to the community.
