Man charged with Lockport Township slaying

Police say Alvin Green fatally shot Patrick Taylor

A ex-convict was charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 39-year-old man in Lockport Township.

On Thursday, Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley announced in a news release that detectives secured an arrest warrant for Alvin Green, 43, of the 100 block of Fairmont Avenue after he was charged with the murder of Patrick Taylor on Tuesday.

Witnesses told deputies that an argument took place between Taylor and an unknown man who was later identified as Green, who had been driving the red Ford conversion van, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

“Green began to fire a weapon in the direction of Taylor, who was shot multiple times and died later from his injuries,” police said.

About 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies found Green not far from the scene of the shooting in a different vehicle and he was taken into custody on a warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections that carried no bond, police said.

Green was taken to the sheriff’s Public Safety Complex, 16911 W. Laraway Road, Joliet, for questioning, police said.

“Green refused to make any statements to detectives,” police said.

Green was later taken to the Will County jail on the IDOC warrant, police said.

About 2 a.m. the same day, deputies found the suspect vehicle several miles away on Florence Avenue in Joliet, and it was removed for the scene so it could be processed as evidence, police said.

On Thursday, Green was charged with murdering Taylor, police said.

On Nov. 1, 2019, Green pleaded guilty to possessing methamphetamine with intent to deliver, court records show.

Officers with the Joliet Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad executed a search warrant on Green’s residence and saw him throw a purple bag containing 50 grams of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, court records show.

Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak sentenced Green to serve 50% of an 8-year sentence and credited him with 500 days already served while incarcerated.

Green was paroled from prison on March 12.

In a statement, Kelley thanked the “fine men and women” at the sheriff’s for their “outstanding work, dedication and determination exhibited in this case.”

“Everyone involved in this case, including the patrol officers, supervisors, detectives and crime scene technicians worked together as a team to bring this killer to justice,” Kelley said. “This was true teamwork at its finest.”

Kelley also thanked the public for assisting in the investigation.

“Without citizens coming forward in this case and providing detectives with critical information, this case would have been far more difficult to solve,” Kelley said.
