Chicago woman crashes into 3 vehicles in Joliet: cops

Woman accused of running red light on Essington Road, police said

A Chicago woman was arrested in connection with three car crashes in Joliet that occurred when she ran a red light at a high rate of speed, police said.

About 10:09 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the area of Theodore Street and Essington Road for a traffic crash with injures, according to Joliet police.

Officers arrived and determined that Julissa Romero, 22, was involved in the crash, police said.

Romero was seen driving north on Essington Road and approaching Theodore Street at a high rate of speed, police said.

“Romero disobeyed a red traffic light and collided into a vehicle in the intersection,” police said.

After that crash, Romero continued driving and struck two more vehicles “that were stopped at the red light of southbound Essington Road,” police said.

Romero and the driver of the first vehicle that was struck were taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, police said. One of the other drivers was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

“All injuries were non-life-threatening,” police said.

At 8:50 p.m. Sunday, Romero was taken to the Will County jail after she was released from the hospital.

Romero was charged with aggravated reckless driving that caused bodily harm, court records show.

She was also cited for driving 21 to 25 mph above the speed limit, reckless driving, failure to reduce speed, improper traffic lane usage and not driving on the right side of the road.

Romero’s bond was set at $10,000.
