A 6-year-old boy and 27-year-old woman were killed, and three others were injured in a head-on collision involving a sedan and a pickup truck in Joliet.

The woman was identified by the Will County Coroner’s Office as Sarah L. Altiery, 27, of Joliet.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to the crash on Channahon and Hollywood roads, Joliet police said in a news release.

The officers’ preliminary investigation of the incident revealed Altiery was traveling east on Channahon Road and her sedan “veered into the oncoming traffic lane,” police said.

Altiery’s car collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by a 48-year-old man, police said.

Altiery and 6-year-old were taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet with life-threatening injuries, police said.

“Unfortunately, the 6-year-old male passenger died from his injuries upon arrival at the hospital,” police said.

Altiery also died, passing away on Thursday.

Two girls, ages 12 and 7, were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for injuries that were not life threatening, police said.

The pickup driver was taken to Silver Cross and then flown to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood for injuries that were not life threatening, police said.

“This crash remains under investigation by the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit,” police said.
