Lincoln-Way Central defeats Southland College Prep in boys basketball

Lincoln-Way Central had no trouble defending its home floor Monday, taking down Southland College Prep, 73-45, in New Lenox.

Jack Vetger led the way with 15 points for the Knights, Jack Barrett scored 13, and Michael Collins chipped in with nine points.

Gardner-South Wilmington 40, Woodland 34: At Gardner, the Panthers had a strong second half to snap their recent skid. Cale Halpin scored 19 points to lead G-SW (2-5) to victory and Bennett Grant added nine points and seven rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Illinois Lutheran 33, Gardner-South Wilmington 23: At Crete, the Panthers (0-8) were unable to keep pace with Lutheran on the road.

Hannah Balcom had seven points in the loss.

Lisle 37, Reed-Custer 20: At Lisle, the Comets failed to get going on offense in a road loss.

No R-C player scored more than six points.

Newark 47, Dwight 23: At Dwight, the Trojans struggled to score in a home loss.

Kassy Kodat scored eight points in the loss.

Peotone 51, Herscher 27: At Peotone, the Blue Devils earned a runaway Illinois Central Eight Conference victory over the Tigers.

Jenna Hunter led the way with 16 points and six rebounds, and Madi Schroeder scored nine points.
