Megan Hutchinson’s 4 goals lead Lincoln-Way Central past Andrew

Megan Hutchinson scored four goals to lead Lincoln-Way Central to a 5-0 win over visiting Andrew in SouthWest Suburban Conference girls soccer action Thursday.

Emma Vogler also scored, as the Knights (9-1-2, 5-0 SWSC) remained undefeated in conference play. Grace Grundhofer had two assists. Maddie Camaioni, Emma Sauriol and Sydney Slomski also contributed assists. Sauriol and Jenny Farr shared the shutout.

Lincoln-Way West 1, Sandburg 0: At Lincoln-Way West, the Warriors handed the Eagles their first loss of the season.

BASEBALL

Lincoln-Way West 7, Herscher 2: At Lincoln-Way West, Collin Murray got the Warriors’ offense going with a solo homer in the first inning of the nonconference game.

Owen Wolcott (3 for 3) and Dean Ruble each drove in runs during a three-run fourth. Cole Crafton earned the win, throwing two-hit ball over four innings with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Plainfield Central 14, Joliet Central 4 (5 inn.): At Plainfield Central, Spencer Ruch’s first career homer, a three-run shot in the fifth inning, helped rally the Wildcats, who improved to 14-7 overall and 7-5 in the Southwest Prairie Conference.

Ruch (2 for 4) Jack Irwin (2 for 3, three RBIs) and Josh Cunniff (2 for 2, three RBIs) each had a pair of hits for Plainfield Central, which trailed, 4-3, after three. Josh Stratton (2-0) earned the win, striking out two in two scoreless innings in relief. The Wildcats scored three runs in the fourth and eight in the fifth to end it.

Illiana Christian 14, Peotone 0: At Peotone, Kade Hupe had a double for one of the Blue Devils’ three hits in their nonconference loss.

Illiana Christian put the game away with a six-run seventh inning.

Manteno 4, Coal City 1: At Manteno, Brady Best (1 for 3) drove in the Coalers’ only run in their Illinois Central Eight defeat.

Best allowed three earned runs in a complete-game effort. He struck out three over six innings, yielding six hits and two walks.

Seneca 3-0, Putnam County 5-1: At Seneca, the Irish lost the first game in extra innings, scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh to even the score before Putnam County pushed across the deciding two runs in the eighth.

Brayden Roe was 2 for 3 with a double for Seneca, and Tyler Sutzberger went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

In Game 2, Seneca starter Ethan Brockman didn’t allow a hit in six innings, striking out seven and walking two, but suffered the loss. Putnam County scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the second.

SOFTBALL

Joliet Catholic 4, Wilmington 3: At Wilmington, Jolee Santiago had a single and two RBIs for the Angels, who hung for the nonconference win.

Morgan Bruno and Andie Broniewicz doubled for JCA (14-7). Sophia Stirbis earned the win, going the distance in the circle.

Wilmington scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to make it close. Abby Pitts doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Wildcats, who also got two hits from Olivia Hansen.

St. Laurence 5, Providence 4: At St. Laurence, the Vikings scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to deliver the Celtics a heartbreaking loss in Girls Catholic Athletic Conference action.

Corey Maloney homered and doubled for Providence (10-16, 5-5), driving in all four of the Celtics’ runs.

Marist 4, Lincoln-Way West 0: At Lincoln-Way West, the Warriors allowed one run in the sixth and three in the seventh of the nonconference game.

Warriors starting pitcher Allie Wondrasek struck out nine and was charged with three earned runs. Emma Young (1 for 3), Lexi Castaneda (1 for 3) and Molly Marquardt (1 for 2) each had a hit for Lincoln-Way West.

Seneca 11-16, Putnam County 0-3: At Seneca, the Irish won a pair of five-inning games as Maggie Carpenter (8-2) struck out 13 in Game 1. Taya Roe (7-1) went the distance in Game 2, allowing two earned runs.

Mallory Othon hit her first varsity homer in the first game, and Sam Vandevelde slugged her fifth of the season in Game 2.

BOYS TENNIS

Lincoln-Way Central 7, Bolingbrook 0: At Lincoln-Way Central, the Knights celebrated senior night with a shutout that improved their record to 11-4.

BOYS WATER POLO

Andrew 15, Lincoln-Way West 7: At Lincoln-Way West, the Warriors lost in SWSC action.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Lockport 2, Homewood-Flossmoor 0: At Lockport, Matthew Arens pounded seven kills for the Porters in their 25-21, 25-19 win that improved their record to 13-3 overall and 7-1 in the SWSC.

Garrett Schad and Owen Knezevich added five kills apiece, and Scott Szymkowiak tallied four.

Oswego East 2, Joliet Central 0: At Oswego East, the Steelmen dropped a 25-20, 25-20 decision in Southwest Prairie Conference action.

Lincoln-Way West 2, Sandburg 1: At Sandburg, Brian Lynch and Connor Studer each had 13 kills for the Warriors, who rallied for a 23-25, 25-22, 25-19 win in SWSC action.

Andrew Tomaszweski and Garrett Konopack dished out 25 and 15 assists, respectively. Lincoln-Way West’s other contributors included Ryan McDonald (seven kills, three blocks), Conner Dargan (five blocks) and Ricky Castillo (18 digs), Studer had six digs, as well.

WRESTLING

Lincoln-Way West 32, Lincoln-Way East 30: At Lincoln-Way West, the Warriors edged the Griffins in SWSC action.

Seneca 51, Prairie Central 17: At Prairie Central, the Irish won eight matches by forfeit.

Seneca 66, Deer Creek Mackinaw 15: At Prairie Central, the Irish improved to 19-1, receiving pins from Luke Sangston (106), Wilson Widman (145) and Will Milton (152).

Lincoln-Way Central 51, Homewood-Flossmoor 19: At, Lincoln-Way Central, the Knights received pins from Joey Malito (126), Lance Valentine (152), Dustin Kozlowski (160), Fabian Villasenor (182) and Paul Claussen (285).

Lincoln-Way Central improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the SWSC.

Lincoln-Way Central 51, Joliet West 9: At Lincoln-Way Central, the Knights (9-1) won behind pins from Nathan Knowlton (106) Michael Olson (145), Maximos Villasenor (170) and Andrew Hesse (195).
