Joliet university offering summer program for students interested in teaching careers

High school students who have completed their sophomore year may apply.

The University of St. Francis on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, in Joliet, Ill.

The University of St. Francis College of Education will host its Future Educator Summer Academy 2022 on June 14 and 15 on the USF campus, according to a news release from USF.

The summer academy is for high school students interested in a career in education. Students must have completed their sophomore year. Students will spend two days and one night in a USF dorm, supervised by adult program facilitators, according to the release.

According to the release, participants will:

• Explore careers in education and learn characteristics of great teachers.

• Network with educators and other high school students considering education as a career.

• Participate in USF’s challenge course and discover how team building can be used for learning.

The cost per participant for the program is $80. The fee includes accommodations, meals and a T-shirt. A limited number of scholarships are available to qualifyied students. Space for the program is limited.
