Troy student donates 3,000 school supply items to all 7 Troy schools

James Goodwin collected school supplies as part of his Eagle Scout project

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Troy Middle School student James Goodwin recently collected and delivered donations of 3,000 pieces of school supplies to all seven of the schools in Troy Community School District 30-C, according to a news release from the district.

James, a member of Boy Scout Troop 256. organized the collection as part of his Eagle Scout project with help from his troop. Troy Community School District 30-C is the charter for Boy Scout Troop 256, the release said.

The donations included 403 notebooks, 420 folders,558 packs of pencils, 487 glue sticks and 300 packs of crayons, along with a three-tiered cart for each school, which held the supplies, the release said.

To determine how many supplies he should collect, James conferenced with Marc Solodky, Troy coordinator of student and family services and researched the number of students in the district who qualified for free and reduced lunches, the release said.

“I don’t want kids worrying about what supplies they might not have,” James said in an email to Troy’s principals.
