St. Peter Lutheran Church in Joliet welcomes new pastor

Rev. David Totsky will be installed at special service on April 11

St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Joliet officially will welcome its new pastor on April 11.

An installation service for the Rev. David Totsky will take place at 3 p.m. at the church, 310 N. Broadway St. in Joliet.

Totsky was ordained in 1990. During his ministry, Totsky has served at four churches. His most recent service was at Sherman Park Lutheran in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to a news release from St. Peter Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Allan R. Buss, president of the Northern Illinois District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, will deliver the sermon. The Rev. Eric Stumpf, interim pastor since September 2019, will be the liturgist, according to the release.

Michele Ryjewski, secretary at St. Peter Lutheran Church, praised Stumpf’s service.

“Not many churches are lucky to get one pastor to be an interim pastor, able to come out every week,” Ryjewski said. “He and his wife helped us out a ton. Even now that he’s retired, he’s still helping out other churches.”

In addition, pastors from other area churches in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod will participate in the service, according to the release.

St. Peter Lutheran Church has a long history in Joliet, celebrating its 160th anniversary in 2017.
