This weekend: get in shape, get in tune and go back in time

5 Things To Do near me

1) Enjoy a free concert by Junkyard Groove Chicago from 8 to 10 p.m. Thurday night at Mistwood Golf Club, 1700 Renwick Road in Romeoville. The event is part of its “Summer Concert Series in The Courtyard” series. Junkyard Groove Chicago is a high energy band that plays hits from the 1960s to the present. 2) Or enjoy free music from 8 p.m. to midnight at “open jam” night on Thursday at Uptown Plainfield, located at 24035 Lockport St, Plainfield. For more information, visit uptownplainfield.com.

3) The American Warriors Motorcycle Association will recreate the magic of the 1940s Hollywood Canteen Club from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday night at Stone City Post, located at 124 Stone City Drive in Joliet. Back in the day, the Hollywood Canteen Coub would offer dancing, drinks and entertainment for service members on their way to serve overseas. So the event at Stone City will feature dancing showgirls, comedy, variety acts, soulful lounge singers, vintage candy girls and plenty of 1940s atmosphere. No charge for veterans who want to attend. Tickets are available at the door or at pinupsontour.com.

4) On Saturday, enjoy the music of Prairie Station from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday at Skooter’s Roadhouse, located at 700 W. Jefferson St. in Shorewood. Prairie Station is a high energy, modern country band that plays the songs of artists such as Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, Sugarland, Lady Antebellum and Johnny Cash. For more information, visit prairiestationband.com and skootersroadhouse.com.

5) If you have kids (ages 3 to 7) with sensory processing disorders, here’s an event for them, a “Sensory-Friendly Playdate: Water World” event, hosted by the Forest Preserve District of Will County. It will be held from 10 to11 a.m. Sunday at the Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, Channahon. Kids will explore water on their own terms through crafts and hands-on activities. The event is free, but participants must register by Friday by calling 815-722-9470 or visiting reconnectwithnature.org.
