Crash on Frontage Road near I-55 in Channahon shuts down lanes

Traffic passes an Illinois State Police Car performing a traffic stop on Thursday, May 23, 2019, on I55 in Joliet, Ill. Scott's Law is named after Lieutenant Scott Gillen of the Chicago Fire Department who was struck and killed by an intoxicated driver while assisting at a crash. It requires drivers approaching police or emergency vehicles who are stopped on the roadway to reduce speeds, proceed with caution and switch lanes, if possible.

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash on the Frontage Road to Arsenal Road off Interstate 55, near the Exxon Mobile refinery in Channahon.

The southbound lanes of the Frontage Road will be shut down for an extended time, state police said at 7:30 a.m.

Traffic backups onto I-55 southbound are possible, so drivers should expect delays in the area, state police said.
