A teenager has been arrested in connection with a shooting on Thursday night at a Joliet apartment complex that left two other teens in critical condition and a third with a gunshot wound to the hand.

The 17-year-old boy who was arrested was found with three 9 mm handguns and ammunition inside a backpack, according to a statement from Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English.

One of the guns had been reported stolen out of Crest Hill, he said.

The teen was arrested on a charge of aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm and other offenses and taken to River Valley Juvenile Detention Center in Joliet.

“His involvement in the shooting remains under investigation,” English said.

English said the “motive and the events” leading up to this shooting remain under investigation.

“This appears to be a targeted incident,” he said.

At 8:16 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the shooting in the 1000 block of Lois Place and found two 17-year-old boys with multiple gunshot wounds, English said.

“One victim was found in a second-floor stairwell with gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. The second victim was located in a first-floor stairwell with gunshot wounds to the leg and abdomen,” English said.

Officers immediately rendered medical aid to both victims until the arrival of paramedics, English said.
