Alexis VanderTuuk’s walk-off grand slam boosts Lockport to WJOL title game: The Herald-News Wednesday Roundup

SOFTBALL

Lockport 5, Providence 2: At the WJOL Tournament at Inwood, Alexis Vander Tuuk hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Porters (5-2) the win and advance them to Thursday’s title game against Lincoln-Way West.

Lincoln-Way West 10, Lincoln-Way Central 0 (5 inn.): At the WJOL Tournament at Inwood, Abby Brueggemann threw a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in the semifinal game, leading the Warriors (8-3) to Thursday’s title game against Lockport. Hannah Borchert (double) and Kaylea Armstrong each had two hits for West, while Borchers and Jess Noga each had two RBIs.

Joliet Catholic 6, Joliet West 5: At the WJOL Tournament at Inwood, Ella Nurczyk singled in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Angels (2-6). Addy Rizzatto had a pair of doubles for JCA, while Samantha Wright homered. Mallory Crisafulli (double) had three hits to lead Joliet West, while Laci Cole (double) had two hits.

Minooka 10, Coal City 0: At the WJOL Tournament at Inwood, Addison Crumly slugged her sixth home run of the young season and drove in three to lead the Indians (4-2). Olivia Carr and Teagan Nurczyk both had two hits. Ava Mills and Leah Jensen had a hit each for Coal City.

Plainfield Central 6, Andrew 4: Evelyn Prochaska had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs to lead the Wildcats (7-1) to the nonconference win, while teammates Emma Sommerfeld (double), Emily Morales and Maesyn Overman each had two hits. Kaylynn Howe and Kierney Laterewicz combined in the circle for the win.

Morris 10, Corbin, TN 0 (5 inn.): Tessa Cryder threw a one-hitter with five strikeouts and added three RBIs. Alyssa Jepson was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, while Halie Olson was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Miley Hughes (RBI), Ella Urbasek (RBI) and Tessa Shannon were all 2 for 3.

Morris 15, Pike County TN 0 (4 inn.): Mylie Hughes threw a perfect game with nine strikeouts for Morris (10-1), while Aubrey McConnell was 4 for 4 with two RBIs and Hailie Olson was 3 for 3 with a home run. Cami Pfeifer also homered.

TF South 16, Joliet Central 15: The Steelmen came up just short in a back-and-forth affair despite a three-run homer by Haydn Voss.

Bishop McNamara 10, Reed-Custer 0: Kirstin Klein and Mackenzie Foote each had a hit for the Comets (4-3) in the nonconference loss.

BASEBALL

Lincoln-Way East 14, Creekwood, TN 4: At the USA High School Challenge in Memphis, the Griffins’ Casey Mikrut was 2 for 2 to spark the offense, while Rocco Triolo homered. Colin Bettenhausen struck four in two innings of work for East (8-0).

Southside (GA) 6, Lincoln-Way West 4: At Cartersville, GA, Jacob Howard was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a home run for the Warriors, while Michael Pettit also had three hits.

Lincoln-Way West 14, Pikesville (GA) 0 (5 inn.): Owen Chudzinski and Matt Staniszewski each homered for the Warriors (5-1), while Matt Oberts and Nick O’Dette each had two hits.

GIRLS SOCCER

Providence 2, St. Laurence 0: Aubrey Curry and Gabby Tylka each had a goal for the Celtics, while goalie Gabriella Raczka recorded the shutout.

Lockport 7, Joliet Catholic 0: Makenna Klacko, Gianna Adamik and Evelyn Ryniejski all had two goals for the Porters, while Lily Nonte also scored.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Lincoln-Way Central def. Brother Rice 25-17, 25-23: The Knights improved to 7-1 on the season with the nonconference win.
