Lawsuit would require Chemtool to assess the extent of the contamination

A senior fire official says an explosion and massive fire at a chemical plant in Rockton that filled the sky with black smoke and forced the evacuation of hundreds of homes for days was started accidentally during maintenance work

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is installing special barriers in the Rock River to prevent the spread of contaminants from the massive Chemtool plant fire.
