Police: Man shot, killed in Sterling

STERLING - A man was shot and killed in the 900 block of West Fourth Street this morning, and a suspect is in custody, according to Sterling police.

At 7:40 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance-related call in the 900 block of West Fourth Street and found a man had been shot inside the residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Deputy Chief Jeffrey Mohr said in a news release.

A man was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived at the site, and police do not think there is a continued risk to the public, Mohr said.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details were released at this time.

The Sterling Police Department was assisted by Rock Falls police, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department, Sterling Fire Department, CGH Ambulance, and the Whiteside County Coroner’s office.
