Wolens and Akridge memorial benches dedicated at Rock Falls’ Centennial Park

ROCK FALLS – Representatives of the Coloma Township Park District and members of both the Akridge and Wolens families gathered at the Centennial Park tennis courts in Rock Falls to dedicate two memorial benches in honor of the two families. The benches are west of the courts.

One bench stands in honor of Norma and Jerry Wolens, dedicated by their son, Marc Wolens. The other stands in honor of Dick and Carol Sue Akridge. Both the Wolens and Akridge families have been highly influential in the Sterling-Rock Falls tennis community, specifically for the Coloma Township Park Distric. Both families organized popular tennis tournaments and founded the annual Todd Mcthenia Memorial Tournament, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society.
