The Putnam County Library District has announced its August programs

Hennepin

Thursday, Aug. 5 — Take a guided tour of the Wes Dixon Waterfowl Refuge at 5 p.m. Sign up at the Hennepin Library Branch by stopping in or calling 815-925-7020. This beautiful natural area in our very own backyard. Participants will be starting at the library first then heading over to the refuge. Limit of 20 people for the guided tour. Participants will be hiking, but not a large amount.

• Wednesday, Aug. 11 — Fruit Forward at 7 p.m. This will be Zoom/pending in person. If in-person, register with the library ahead of time. Learn to mixed berry galette, tart apple shortcake and a peach crisp coffeecake with Fr. Dominic of St. Bede.

Thursday, Aug. 12 — Bad art craft will be yarn birds. This grab-and-go craft art program will be available all day for all audiences. This event is held on select Thursdays. Rotten eggs are not included.

• Story time — Story time has been suspended until further notice. Patrons are encouraged to watch story hour online via the library’s Facebook Page. If a story hour online craft kit is wanted, call the Hennepin library at 815-925-7020 to be placed on a list for kit pickup.

Granville

• Friday, Aug. 6 — Medium Heather Meehan at 6 p.m. Seating is limited and reservations are required. There is only room for 10 people. Call the Granville Library Branch at 815-339-2038.

• Saturday, Aug. 7 — The August craft will be Dixie Cup squirrel and easy snack bag butterfly. They will be available all morning.

• First and third Monday — Book Discussion Group will meet at 1 p.m.

• Every Tuesday — Online story hour at 10 a.m. Watch a video as Paula share a story and suggests a craft on the Facebook page.

Every Tuesday — Story hour at 11 a.m. Children ages 2 to 5 can stop in for a story and craft. They will meet in Hopkins Park in Granville. Bring a blanket or chair. They will be following social distancing protocols. Gather in the shelter.

Putnam (Condit)

• Saturday, Aug. 7 — Books and Brunch first Saturday of every month.

Magnolia

• Tuesday, Aug. 3 — Flutist Ken Troyan will teach people how to play Native American flutes from 4 to 5 p.m.

• Aug. 9-16 — Display of photos and winners for the nature photo contest with HC Photography.

• Friday, Aug. 13, and Saturday, Aug. 14 — Magnolia Days books sale. Hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

• Saturday, Aug. 14 — Movie matinee at dusk at Magnolia Peterson Park.

• Tuesday, Aug. 17 — 4-H project at 4 p.m.

• Saturday, Aug. 28 — Wii at 10 a.m.

• Tuesday, Aug. 31 — M-P Farm Bureau/4-H at 4 p.m.

McNabb

• Wednesday, Aug. 4 — Colored sand painting at 4 p.m.

Standard

• Tuesday, Aug. 10 — Standard craft 2 go kits will be available from 1 to 5 p.m. Summertime … time to stay out after dark and enjoy the dragonflies, fireflies and summer sounds. This months’s craft will be a clothespin dragonfly.

• Thursday, Aug. 19 — Acclaimed Accordionist Mike Basin will perform at 12:30 p.m. He has put together a world tour of music for young and old alike. Melodic and harmonious, his music takes you on an adventure through time and tempo exploring several music genres. He has studied accordion and piano at the Joseph Medin Musical College and the Institute of Music and Art in St. Petersburg, Russia.
