Letter: Concerns over voting laws police force

keyboard

Whenever those of us on the left point out that the Republican party is moving away from democracy and toward fascism, cynics on the right claim we are being hysterical, as though the idea itself is absurd on its face. Perhaps the latest new idea emerging from Republican governor of Florida Ron DeSantis (and adopted by Georgia’s Bryon Kemp) will convince you. On top of changes already made to limit voting rights in Florida, DeSantis wants to form a police force to enforce voting laws and investigate fraud. He would have his own personal band of thugs to use to intimidate voters and investigate bogus claims of voter fraud. Sedition. Voter suppression. Militias. That sounds a lot like fascism to me.
