Letter: Time for new faces in township government

To the Editor:

Nunda Township Road Commissioner Mike Lesperance is touting on his website that I supported him in 2013. Sadly, that is not the case anymore as he has been a terrible disappointment and a poster child for waste and mismanagement.

Township commissioners Lesperance and McHenry Township Road Commissioner Jim Condon are up for reelection yet again, but this time it’s hopefully the last. Both Nunda Township and McHenry Township have solicited the employment of disgraced politician Bob Miller in both their offices for “consulting” work. Both have run bloated offices with numerous expensive positions filling up payrolls and pension costs, with the taxpayers footing the bill.

It’s been clear that Lesperance, Condon and other township cronies – like Lesperance’s puppet trustees Karen Tynis and Justin Franzke – are in the local government business to enrich themselves, not make taxpayer lives better. They must go. Then, the next trustees should follow the example of McHenry Township trustees who voted to cut township politician salaries.

Illinois could quite frankly do without townships entirely. Our state has more layers of government than any other state in the country, and it contributes to our skyrocketing property taxes. We should eliminate townships all together. Until that time comes, though, we can do our part by getting rid of the politicians who have used this outdated and ineffective form of government to line their pockets. We have that opportunity Feb. 23.
