The Huntley Senators, the Huntley Little League tournament team representing the Minors Division (8-, 9- and 10-year-olds), has qualified for the Little League World Series State Championship Tournament.
“This is a big accomplishment for these kids. They work hard all season at practice and during house league games to prepare for this,” Huntley Little League President Bill Meyer said. “This is only the second team from Huntley to make it this far in our history. We’re all rooting for them.”
In tournament play so far, through a combination of pool play and elimination games, the Huntley Senators have a combined 7-2 record, outscoring opponents 90-23. In addition, the team has thrown two no-hitters and has an extra inning victory to its credit. “I believe our hot bats and our depth at pitching give us a great chance to win state,” team manager Scott Crowe said.
The Illinois LLWS State Championship Tournament begins at at 1 p.m. Saturday as Huntley plays the representative from the Champaign East Little League Organization to kick off the first game of the tournament. Other communities represented are Salem, Clear Ridge, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Peru, and the Jackie Robinson West All-Stars. You can follow the action, streamed live, on the Huntley Little League Facebook page.
