Elgin man found shot dead in Carpentersville apartment building, police say

A 30-year-old Elgin man was fatally shot in Carpentersville earlier Thursday morning, the Carpentersville Police Department said in a news release.

Officers responded at 3:21 a.m. Thursday to 9 Oxford Road for reports of shots fired, according to the release. The caller said they saw a man fleeing the area.

Upon arrival, officers found a dead man with what appeared to be gunshot wounds in the north hallway of the apartment building, according to the release. The man was identified as Jorge Sanchez, 30, of Elgin.

Carpentersville detectives are “actively pursuing leads which are still developing in this incident,” police said in the release.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Kane County Coroner’s Office at a time and date to be determined.

Additional information will be released pending further investigation, the department said in the release.
