Two people were injured during a fire Tuesday night in northwest Harvard when they were unable to evacuate the home, the fire chief said Wednesday.

The Harvard Fire Protection District responded at 7:30 p.m. to 1205 Orchard Lane, Fire Chief Lawrence Kane said. As crews were responding they were told that two residents were unable to evacuate the building, but Harvard police were able to escort them out safely.

The two residents were taken to area hospitals in serious condition, Kane said. He didn’t have ages for the two residents but said one was a man and the other a woman.

The fire started at an area in the furnace, he said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
