Cary-based H.R. Stewart celebrates 90 years in business

Cary-based H.R. Stewart is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2020, according to a press release from the Cary-Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.

Starting in 1930, H.R. Stewart, at 52 W. Crystal St., provides plumbing, heating, and air conditioning, custom sheet metal, and heavy sewer cleaning, according to the chamber. The company’s customers include “everything from the single-family home to Fortune 500 corporations,” and its services include heavy industrial to residential.

Jim Stewart, who currently leads H.R. Stewart, is the third generation to head the business, the press release stated.

He took over the business in 2000. Founded by Jim Stewart’s grandfather, Howard Stewart, the business was then run by Jim’s father, Allan.

H.R. Stewart has also been involved with the larger Cary community, according to the release. The company’s founder, Howard Stewart, served as the village’s 17th mayor, and it sponsors community events, such as Cary Main Street Fest and the Merry Cary parade.

This year, the company even served as the grand marshal of the 2020 Merry Cary Parade-Turned Around.

“This is an incredible milestone for any company, " Jim Stewart, president of H.R. Stewart, said in a statement. “H.R. Stewart has achieved this longevity through the hard work, passion, and dedication of our team, our commitment to our community, and our culture of customer service and long-lasting relationships. ... I like to say, build the relationships and the business will come.”
