Wonder Lake man accused of possessing heroin at McHenry County Jail

Philip D. Crimaldi was serving time for an unrelated possession charge when a new case was filed against him, court records show

A 49-year-old Wonder Lake man is accused of possessing heroin while being placed in custody at the McHenry County Jail on an unrelated drug possession charge.

A McHenry County judge issued a warrant May 12 for the arrest of Philip D. Crimaldi, an inmate at the jail.

Crimaldi, of the 8500 block of Shady Lane, Wonder Lake, is accused of possessing about 5 grams of heroin on May 6. Police discovered the drugs when Crimaldi was taken into custody on a separate charge and searched at the McHenry County Jail, sheriff’s deputy Kevin Byrnes said.

“Our Criminal Investigation Division was notified and Crimaldi was subsequently charged. No contraband was distributed inside of the correctional facility,” Byrnes said.

Crimaldi accepted a plea deal on May 6 on an unrelated October 2020 charge of possession of a controlled substance, court records show. He was sentenced in that case to 180 days in jail and two years of probation, court records show.

Crimaldi remained at the McHenry County Jail on Friday on a $75,000 bond.

He’s scheduled to appear in court Monday on the most recent charge.
