A 52-year-old McHenry man was charged multiple felonies after police say he struck a woman in the face with a knife.

Rogelio Cantu, of the 1900 block of Concord Drive, was charged with aggravated domestic battery, two counts of aggravated battery, and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence, according to a news release from the McHenry Police Department.

The most serious charge, aggravated domestic battery, is a class 2 felony, which typically carries a sentence of three to seven years.

Cantu was arrested after the McHenry Police Department responded about 9 p.m. Saturday to the 1900 block of Concord Drive for a reported stabbing incident, according to the release.

A 52-year-old woman reported a domestic dispute with a man who lived with her, according to the release. She said the man struck her in the face with a knife.

She was able to leave the home and yell for help, according to the release. Neighbors came to her aid and called 911.

The woman was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to her face and released a few hours later, according to the release.

Cantu remained at the McHenry County Jail as of late Sunday afternoon, the jail log shows. A bond had not yet been set.

The McHenry Police Department is asking anyone with information related to the case to contact its criminal investigation division at 815-363-2599. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the McHenry police tip line at 815-363-2124, which does not use caller ID.
