Cary man arrested on child pornography charges

Arrest stems from February 2020 investigation by U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Police on Thursday arrested a Cary man who faces 15 counts of possessing child pornography.

Officials with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 32-year-old Donald J. Schroeder at his Cary home in the 2400 block of Oakdale Terrace, according to a news release.

Schroeder is charged with multiple counts of child pornography, a felony punishable by as many as five years in prison.

His arrest stemmed from a February 2020 investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to the release. Through their investigation, officers identified Schroder as a suspect who lived within the jurisdiction of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Police then obtained a search warrant to collect evidence that led to the felony charges, according to the release.

Schroeder remained at the McHenry County Jail on Thursday afternoon on a $100,000 bond. He was scheduled to go before a judge Friday morning.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 815-334-4750.
